Pimp C died in LA
but this post isn’t about Wii
it’s about Pong
35 years ago this past thursday, Atari released what became the first successful video game: Pong
i was fortunate to catch an enjoyable and informing NPR story this morning about Pong’s anniversary, “Pong: The Ping Heard Round the World” (click for story)
the radio feature ends with something off 8 Bit Operators and then a Wendy Carlos (to whom we are all in debt) tune.
but the most value for me is when the Atari founder talks about Pong’s greatest strength…its “highly social” ness
i just love it when the hard science guys speak on the sociological implications

you don’t see that poster in the “now playing” context very often
the maumee indoor theatre is showing both the Holy Grail and The Life of Brian through tomorrow

off the new Detroit Summer album Rising Up From The Ashes…Chronicles of a Dropout. we’ll have to revisit the Detroit Summer effort in the future

off The Unbound Project from a good many years back. Ursula Rucker was the real live poet who ended out a couple Roots albums w/ a non-listed outro song (Do You Want More?! and Illadelph Halflife). Her’s were always one of my favorites on each album. Then the song “Soon” came out on this compilation…it’s always struck me as one of the strongest songs ever. Filled so much with righteousness and get back and 808 aesthetics.
massacre-type violence is rare in the Nordic region of the world
yesterday the world incurred yet another school shooting rampage. this time in Finland
here is the Blade’s coverage
the story has a cyber twist in that there was some YouTube footage by the perpitrator before the shooting
appearently there was a KMFDM song used in one of his videos, a song that the Columbine dudes used as well. this was the first i’d read of the song, and tracked it down out of curiosity.
the web is a good place to expound on the multi media aspects of life
but first a moment of silence for all who have suffered at the hands of ruthless violence (may Your stories inspire its abolishment). . .
